UTRAJAYA, Feb 3 (Bernama) -- Fourteen schools -- five schools in Johor, three in Kedah, two each in Terengganu and Penang and one each in Pahang and Negeri Sembilan -- are in the third cohort of high-performance schools, thus raising to 66 their total number in the country.

The 14 principals and headmasters received the instrument of SBT recognition and special allocation for their schools from Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin at a function at the Parcel E Auditorium here today.

Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister, said the high-performance recognition is not confined to mere recognition of the schools but, more importantly, to having a positive impact on the achievement of students.

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 3 (Bernama) -- The novel, "Konserto Terakhir" by national laureate Datuk Abdullah Hussain will replace "Interlok" as textbook for the Malay literature component for Form Five students from next year.

Education director-general Datuk Seri Abd Ghafar Mahmud in a statement today said the textbook replacement concerned students in Zone Two, covering Negeri Sembilan, the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, and Selangor.

He said "Konserto Terakhir" had gone through the process of selection and screening set and was found to be suitable as a school literature textbook based on the values promoted and the quality of the work.

KUALA LUMPUR: The results of the Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) 2011 or Lower Secondary Assessment examination will be announced on Thursday.

An Education Ministry statement said the analysis of the PMR results would be announced in Putrajaya on that day.

“Candidates can obtain their examination results from their respective schools after 10am on Thursday,” the statement said.

PETALING JAYA: A new panel to review the country’s education system has been formed with AirAsia Group boss Tan Sri Tony Fernandes and Khazanah Nasional Bhd managing director Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar among its seven panellists.

Appointed by Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, the panel will be headed by Albukhary Internatio­nal University president Tan Sri Dr Dzulkifli Abdul Razak.

Fernandes, who praised the panel members as “game changers” from the public and private sector, said the panel would look into ways to cultivate a new education system which would build “global Malaysians”.

PUTRAJAYA, Dec 16 (Bernama) -- The 1Malaysia book vouchers for students of institutions of higher learning have various security features to ensure they cannot be tampered with or counterfeited by irresponsible parties, said Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

He said the RM200 vouchers would be printed by Percetakan Nasional Malaysia Berhad and have the same security features as the RM500 vouchers meant to be a one-off aid for households with income below RM3,000 a month.

"The security features are to prevent any counterfeiting," he told reporters after launching the ministry's 2011 Potential Centres of Excellence (CoE) programme here Friday.
